Ranchon La Mulata (Miramar, Havana) my birthday party

Cuba is no place to be in the summer (it's so bloody hot, the hottest summer since 1951) but that didn't stop me from having a good time just the same. Since my birthday fell on a day while I was there I figured why not throw a party for myself. I would invite some locals I've known for many years as well as friends from Canada, Italy and Germany who happen to be in Havana. The question was, where to have it. It just so happened that there was a place right under my nose within walking distance of where I stay when in Havana.
Ranchon La Mulata is located at the corner of 3a y 90 in the Miramar district of Havana. It's normally open as a restaurant that serves typical Cuban fare at reasonable prices but they also rent out the space for parties such as the one I had for $30cuc per hour plus food and beverage. It was convenient that my birthday fell on a Sunday which is the day they are closed & open only for private functions. Lisbeth, the owner, is a very nice (animated) lady who helped me choose a menu for my party. Armando, her son, provided the excellent service thereafter. The price was very reasonable and the space optimum for my needs. I ordered something that wasn't on the menu (sort of), a whole roast pork with all the fixins. It was one of the best I've had on the island, they really did a good job. I also ordered some Malanga Fritters to be put in the middle of each table as appetizers. I was also allowed to bring my own drinks but could order something I didn't have and add it to my bill. I may have had about 40 people show up but there was room for a lot more. I could have brought a live band (maybe next time) but opted to use their sound system this time. I had a preloaded flash drive that I was able to plug into their system, otherwise I could have brought cds as well. The service provided the night of the event was very pleasant and everything was done as asked and when asked. As you can see from the pictures, we had a good time. The air was filled with cigar smoke and the sound of laughter. For a little more than $12cuc per person I was able to bring happiness to people that was worth a whole lot more. I would definitely return here for future events.
Now that I've found this place that's so close to home (they also do takeout) I'm going to have to come back to try some of the stuff on the menu, specifically the pork ribs.
