As with many of the old mansions built centuries ago in Habana Vieja, you can walk by a building and never give it much thought. As in the case of the Casa de Francisco Aguilera Basabe, you may even enter the building and never know the history behind the structure since you're there to view the ceramics on display. This two-story building that was built in 1728 now houses the Museo Nacional de la Cerámica Contemporánea (Museum of Contemporary Ceramics). I've visited this museum on several occasions as the exhibits on display dating from the the 1950's to present day are changed periodically.
This building is actually two properties that have been combined. Since 1874 the Aguilera family owned the property and right up until 1935 had done substantial renovations to the building. There is no change for entering the museum.
