Nero Di Seppia (Havana Restaurant) Return Visit

Nobody can say that this is an inexpensive place to have a meal unless you only order a pizza or a pasta and maybe a bottle of water. However, nobody can say the food here sucks either. Walter has moved on once again and like the last time, he's only gotten better. After all, if it's good enough for the pope and Zucchero (famous Italian singer), it's more than good enough for me.
I don't know how he gets his product into the country but he does. I ordered the expensive Bresaola to start and wasn't disappointed, it was exactly what I expected and that's one of the beauties of this place, Walter does it right. The food here in most cases is simple (that's Italian), with just the right amount of ingredients and nothing of inferior quality. Oh, they make you pay for it but I've never cared about paying for something done right and that's what I get here at 'Nero di Seppia'. My partner loves eggplant so we did that twice in the form of an Eggplant Parmigiana as her main course and an Eggplant appetizer that was sold as a cold salad mixed with artichokes, both dishes were bang on. The service is attentive and pleasant and the spaces are sparsely and tastefully decorated. As a cigar smoker my only disappointment is that they only have one smoking table outside, no smoking is allowed inside the restaurant. Another comment I have is that there is no wine list and I don't like that. I can appreciate an always changing wine list that's never the same from one month to the next but you can always put it on a chalkboard, I don't like asking what each bottle is worth. However, although expensive, I have to say that he has a wonderful collection (variety) of wines from Italy, my bottle cost me 50cuc, expensive for Cuba but comparable in my country.
In conclusion, if you want to have a very good authentic Italian meal while in Havana and are willing to spend the money to have it, you won't be disappointed at 'Nero di Seppia'.
