Iglesia de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (Church) Centro Habana

I've been wanting to go to this church for years. I've driven close enough to see the tower almost every day when I'm in Havana. You can't miss it, it stands 71 meters tall and dominates many of the structures close to it. The Virgin of Carmen is what I can see, it's made of bronze and sits on top of the tower. The Virgin is 7.5 meters tall and weighs 9 tons. The inside of the church is in need of some help (repairs) but it's actually quite beautiful. Built in 1927, the central altarpiece, the oldest, has a wood carving of the virgin Carmen from the 19th century. The pulpit was made of precious Cuban wood & the ceilings were painted by a Spanish artist from Madrid. The Lamps are considered works of art and the mosaics come from Seville. There isn't much more that I can understand via the internet besides pictures or non-related news clips. If you're in the area pop in, it's worth a 15 minute visit.
