I walked by this place many times during my last trip to Cuba before I finally decided to check it out. A Cuban friend of mine suggested it, we both smoke cigars and he told me that besides the food being good, they allow smoking. The restaurant takes up a space on the ground floor of a building, up the stairs and to your left, a corner unit. I asked if I may smoke my cigar upon entering and they assured me that I could. The windows were open on this day and I took a window seat. The service was attentive and pleasant, the Caipirina was superb.
I had the Beef Carpaccio topped with arucola, shaved parmigiano and truffle oil as my starter and the Pork Ribs with roasted yucca to finish, both of which were splendid. The big surprise was that they actually had drizzled truffle oil over the carpaccio....a refreshing change. It's not cheap but it's not expensive either, if I had the same in Canada it would have cost me at least double.
Situated across the street from the Hotel Habana Libre, you can't miss the neon sign. There are a lot of restaurants in this area and this is probably one of the better ones. Besides, being able to smoke inside a restaurant is becoming scarcer in Havana.
PS......they also offer a Breakfast ($4-7) & a Brunch ($8-10) as well as a Prix Fixe Lunch at $12 & Dinner for $20 both include appetizer, main course, dessert, national drink and coffee.
