It's getting harder to find accommodations in Havana unless you book well in advance. That goes for renting Casas as well, the better ones are taken early. One option when renting a Casa is to rent a room only and stay with a Cuban family. I know it may sound a bit disconcerting staying with strangers but some people rather enjoy it. Cubans have a tendency to mother their guests and make one feel like you're part of the family but some people prefer privacy. For those who don't mind staying with a Cuban family, this is the perfect place. The owners are a young couple who have taken the time to decorate their apartment in a style that doesn't make it seem like you're in Havana. The apartment is on the 6th floor but not to worry, the building has an elevator. The advantage...great views of the city. You can't beat the location, steps from Prado and almost as close to the Malecon, within walking distance to all the wonders of Old Havana.
You get your own room with a private bath, in the case of this Casa the bed size is King and the bathroom is modern. The living room has a balcony but you also have the option of going on the roof. If you prefer to start your day on a full stomach, for a charge the owners can make you breakfast before you set out to do your exploring. I have sent people here before and they loved it. Give me a shout if anyone is interested in trying this spot on your next trip. 40cuc per night.
