I have been visiting this farm for a long time and am proud to be considered a friend by Salvador. He is a salt of the earth human being who deserves to benefit from the new program the government has been setting up over last couple of years. I'm talking about something they've been promoting as the 'La Ruta del Tabaco' or Tobacco Route. It's part of their attempt to divert tourism outside of the usual places of interest such as Havana which doesn't have enough hotel space to keep up with demand and casas can be hard to find during high season. Salvador's farm is centrally located on a good road (which has recently been repaved as part of the program) conveniently just down the street (5 minutes) from Hector's farm. Salvador has been feverishly trying to complete his personal project to make his farm an attractive spot for the tour buses to stop by building a huge Ranchon on his property that can accommodate about 100 diners. He's built a Mirador that looks out over his fields from above, a room that sleeps 2 people and a natural walk-in humidor. They hadn't yet inaugurated the place when I was there this past November. My friend Dallas has been there since and recently posted some pictures of his visit on facebook....the place is up and running, Please Visit.
PS....I want to thank my Canadian (Dave Anderson) and Cuban (Juan) friends that donated a few of the pictures that I've posted.
